African universities need to innovate

Hello Africa!

We as Africans need to be worried by the fact that lest than six of the continent’s universities make the top 500 universities on the world’s university rankings year-in year-out.

Can we discuss on ways on how to make our universities competitive to other universities of the US, Europe and Asia?

I think that it is high time African Universities embrace the innovative university paradigm. Because, if our universities fail to be innovative in this 21st century, I’m afraid, we’ll remain at the bottom of the table for ever.

Contributions are welcome.

  1. Hi! Gordon,
You right about what you said. It is disheartening to find out that no Nigerian university has ever made up to the top 5000 universities in the past two decades. Its a shame.

  2. Nigerian universities need to improve on faculties and infrastructure so as to be able to compete with foreign universities.
Currently, the facilities in the universities are over-stretched and the lecturer-students ratio is too large.
Unfortunately, faculty members are also not carrying out enough research

  3. hi gordino,
the revelation is really a sad one, with nigeria in focus. the first 6 you mentioned are nearly traced to south african universities, yet we coin our country “giant of africa”. untill,we nigerians’ from top to bottom change our mindset towards all facet of our lives we ganna keep finding ourselves in the lowest ebb. this change must start from the leaders (rulers) down to the man on the street. lets get it started now. we can do it. cheers
